Expand your wings. Fly Green.
GACO and Omega Aircraft sales are pleased to announce they have partnered up so that every aircraft is sold with 5 hours of carbon offsetting through certified worldwide tree planting projects to sequester carbon.
The move aims to encourage those who sell aircraft to operate in a more sustainable way and to make aircraft owners aware of the initiative.
Every new owner will receive a certificate of offset with the aircraft sales documents to encourage them to continue offsetting their flying over the years to come.
Introducing GACO
General Aviation Carbon Offsetting LTD (GACO) is a tree planting and carbon credit initiative that gives businesses and individuals within the aviation sector the ability to take climate action and build a better future for our planet.
GACO offers three main services:
Tree Planting
Our easy-to-use website makes calculating carbon emissions and planting trees to sequester those emissions easier than ever. Once users have calculated the carbon emissions and successfully completed the offset, we arrange for trees to be planted either throughout the world, or in specified areas such as the UK; thus, the CO2 sequestration begins.
Carbon Credits
By providing businesses with carbon credits, we allow them to establish carbon neutrality by offsetting residual emissions on their journey to net-zero. We understand that with current technology, emissions within aviation cannot be eliminated, so we work closely with organisations to recommend the most efficient way to operate an aircraft and offset the remainders.
Tree Planting and Carbon Offsetting
We allocate carbon credits from carbon offset projects that have already captured or avoided CO2 emissions to establish current carbon neutrality and arrange tree planting to match, which allows the sequestration of future emissions. The combination of Carbon Offsetting and Tree planting enables businesses to contribute to a greener future, while offsetting their business emissions immediately.
Tree Planting
Environmental Benefits
Trees are one of our greatest assets in the fight against climate change; not only do they naturally absorb carbon dioxide from the air and release oxygen in its place (which is carbon sequestration), but they also support 10 of the 17 UN sustainable development goals, including; poverty alleviation, zero hunger, gender equality, life on land/below water, health, and wellbeing.
Commercial Benefits
Whilst there are obvious environmental benefits to tree planting, there are also hidden commercial business benefits that operate alongside. This includes:
6. Improved employee engagement
Tree planting locations
We work with global tree planting partners who utilise local experts to plant the best trees, in the correct locations, in the optimum conditions – using their expertise to navigate any challenges they may face along the way. This enables us to ensure your trees are planted for ultimate growth and CO2 sequestration. Some current ongoing projects include Kenya, Madagascar and Haiti. We also offer tree planting throughout the United Kingdom and are in the process of finishing multiple due diligence surveys on new woodlands in which we expect to start utilising in the upcoming months.
Carbon Credits/ Carbon Offsetting
Types of Carbon Offset Projects
There are four main types of carbon offset projects that we use here at GACO, these include the following:
Forestry and Conservation - Reforestation and Conservation have become very popular offsetting schemes. Credits are created based on either the carbon captured by new trees, or the carbon not released through protecting old trees. These projects are based across the world, from growing forests right here in the UK to replanting mangroves in Madagascar and “re-wilding” the rainforests of Brazil.
Renewable Energy - Renewable Energy offsets help to build or maintain chiefly solar, wind or hydro sites across the world. By investing in these projects, a company is boosting the amount of renewable energy on the grid, creating jobs, decreasing reliance on fossil fuels and bolstering the sectors’ global growth.
Community Projects - Community Projects often help to introduce energy-efficient methods or technology to undeveloped communities around the world. There are many potential benefits to these projects that far surpass carbon credits. These outstanding projects not only make entire regions more sustainable, but they also provide empowerment and independence, that can lift communities out of poverty. Therefore, projects that were once purely philanthropic, can now provide organisations with direct benefits like carbon credits.
Waste to Energy - A waste to energy project often involves capturing methane and converting it into electricity. Sometimes this means capturing landfill gas, or in smaller villages, human or agricultural waste. In this way, waste to energy projects can largely impact communities in the same positive way efficient stoves or clean water can.
Environmental Benefits
Purchasing carbon credits to offset CO2 emissions allows businesses to claim current carbon neutrality on account of previously completed carbon capture and carbon avoidance projects. In doing so, you can effectively reduce a business’ emissions to net zero when calculations are undertaken correctly and appropriately verified initiatives are chosen. To carbon offset effectively, we implement the following measures:
General Aviation Carbon Offsetting LTD
1. Adopt large and small volume projects all over the world
2. Use a variety of project types
3. Have access to a significant inventory of carbon credits from leading Credit
Standards (Gold Standard, Verra VCS, UNFCCC CDM)
4. Use global projects in developing countries (South America, Africa, Asia)
Commercial Benefits
The commercial benefits of carbon offsetting include all the same extraordinary prominent benefits as tree planting, as well as improved organisation profits/performance and the ability to promote carbon neutrality status.
How do we ensure correct project accreditation?
As a company, we spend significant time and effort ensuring projects are reputable, valid, and ethical; which always includes using companies with 96-point checklists to cross reference business projects, tree planting co-benefits and media. Our independent rigorous checks continually test, validate, and refine forestry practices and management and give a thorough understanding of tree ownership, tree planters, planting process and growth monitoring.
Social Benefits in General Aviation
Whilst we offer fantastic environmental benefits, we also aim to increase the social benefits within General Aviation by offering flying scholarships and experience flights to those are passionate about our core values. We aim to award yearly scholarships to individual aviators through an application process, to allow pilots to progress to the next stage in their flying.
